Solo Fluency: The Language of Modern Jazz Improvisation for Trumpet (and other instruments)
Jazz trumpet player Phillip Tauber has written a comprehensive jazz book for trumpet entitled Solo Fluency. The purpose of this book is to give musicians the tools to speak the language of jazz. It’s written for non-keyboard players and can be used by saxophone and other instruments in addition to trumpet.
This extensive book is completely free and can be downloaded as a pdf file. The author’s motivation is to help anyone “with a passion to learn and study jazz.” He would love to see this book used as an educational tool and shared by students of jazz. Tauber says that you are never too old or too young to learn the language of jazz.

Praise for the Book
Solo Fluency has been endorsed by Wynton Marsalis, Brian Lynch, John Faddis and many others. Rolf Smedvig calls it a brilliant addition to the literature. Trumpeters are giving Solo Fluency (for jazz trumpet) the same status that the “Arban book” has for classical trumpet.

About Phillip Tauber
Philip is a trumpeter and an entrepreneur. He studied trumpet as a youngster in Los Angeles with Ziggy Elman and later with classical teacher Lester Remsen and movie studio trumpeter John Clyman. He has performed and toured with many internationally known artists and groups. As an entrepreneur, he created business start-ups in the health and natural food industries. One of those companies was Kashi, a natural foods company, which he and his wife Gayle founded in 1983 and sold to Kellogg in 2000.
His Own Words About the Book
Author Phillp Tauber says” When I hear the greats play, like my mentor and friend Brian Lynch, or the late Lee Morgan or Freddy Hubbard, I enter a world only a few of us truly understand. It has taken me over 50 years to accumulate the knowledge collected in Solo Fluency and those secrets can now be yours. The last chapter in the text outlines the subtle history of trumpet jazz secrets and provides you a unique way of translating sounds into your own voice. Enjoy!”
